The project’s goal and subsequently its completion were aimed at restoring a natural relationship between the town and the river, since the river Ohre plays an all important part in life of the city of Kadan. Not such a long time ago, the shores of the river Ohre were part of Kadan’s periphery. The restoration and revitalization project of these shores provides new recreational and sport opportunities in this part of town not only for local residents, but also for visitors.
The original steel footbridge interconnects the area and helps overcome elevation difference between the riverfront and Kadansky stupen (Kadan reservoir). The footbridge thus guarantees a smooth transition into an open landscape in the direction of the city of Klasterec nad Ohri.
This newly developed area aims at restoring a natural relationship between the town and the flow of the river. The addition of an integrated path for cycling and in-line skating should considerably enhance the importance of the riverfront’s multi-functional promenade. The whole area is equipped with proper infrastructure (benches, street and orientation lighting, and other necessary street furnishing).
The project places special importance on improving vegetation and landscaping of the whole area. The original vegetation was preserved, while additional trees were planted, new sod was laid for recreational activity lawns, and grassy areas were seeded with a wide variety of plants including perennials which resemble native plants.
Two piers were anchored into the river – the larger pier that’s meant for cultural events is in front of the restaurant called Split, while the other pier designated for water sports is located by the dockyard.
