About Maxipes Fik Riverfront

The project’s goal and subsequently its completion were aimed at restoring a natural relationship between the town and the river, since the river Ohre plays an all important part in life of the city of Kadan.  Not such a long time ago, the shores of the river Ohre were part of Kadan’s periphery.  The restoration and revitalization project of these shores provides new recreational and sport opportunities in this part of town not only for local residents, but also for visitors.

The original steel footbridge interconnects the area and helps  overcome elevation difference between the riverfront and Kadansky stupen (Kadan reservoir).  The footbridge thus guarantees a smooth transition into an open landscape in the direction of the city of Klasterec nad Ohri.

Why did the city of Kadan adopt Maxipes Fik?!

Literary and screenplay writer Rudolf Cechura was born in a nearby village called Ahnikov, the village which doesn’t exist anymore, leveled to the ground by bulldozers. Mr. Cechura created a screenplay about a fairy tale figure called Maxipes Fik, which is an overgrown, talking, and intelligent dog. The city of Kadan celebrates Maxipes Fik’s birthday also because of the well known actor Josef Dvorak who lived in Kadan and supplied Fik’s television voice. Maxipes Fik was animated by Jiri Salamoun and music for the fairy tales’ television version was composed by Petr Skoumal.

Cechura Rudolf

Rudolf Cechura is a Czech writer, screen play writer, and freelance author. He is an important Sherlock Holmes expert and a promoter of Sherlock Holmes’ name in our country. He finished business school in Chomutov (1950) and gymnasium for teachers in Jihlava (1953). Mr. Cechura then worked as an office worker for Poldovka steel mill (Chomutov plant), also taught school in the Chomutov region, and later became news editor in Czech Radio and editor of magazine “Veda a technika mladezi” (VTM) in Prague. He was eventually fired for political reasons from the editorial position at VTM and has been freelancing since 1973.
